Plane Spotters Trail
Difficulty: Easy to Intermediate
Traffic: Moderate
Distance: 15.2 miles
The local area is steeped in aviation heritage, most famous for it’s Second World War association with the RAF 617 (Dambusters) Squadron. This trail will give you a chance to explore the history of that era and see the present connection at RAF Coningsby which is home to multiple Typhoon Squadrons, the Typhoon Squadron Display Team and The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
Extra care should be taken on the first leg of the route as it takes you via the main road connecting Woodhall Spa to Conningsby . This can can get moderately busy especially during peak holiday season. The return leg sees less traffic, passing through the gravel pits to Kirkby on Bain; before heading back to Woodhall Spa stopping off at Ostler’s Plantation on the final section of the trail.
